Starting to plan for next years NCRF, along with Celtic Harvest, Camelot Christmas and the Madrigal dinner. No script this year!! Going more for the ceremony and pagentry of the queen's progress and celebrating our 15th anniversary. I did promise hubby no new gowns but that doesn't mean I can't accessorize.
M'Crack invasion is this weekend and as usual I can't make it. The family is coming in from Tx and this weekend has been planned for a long time, so therefore....Their coming in for the UNC v McNeese State Univ football game. Nothing is more important than football, you know!! Faire is more important!!! But I guess that depends on who you ask.
Three weekends and only one had decent weather. At least it was the last weekend. For the most part it was cold and rainey. I don't mind being cold or wet but being cold AND wet makes for misery. We even closed down early one day...sparse crowd, performers couldn't perform due to the weather.
Invasion weekend is over!! The wedding is over!! People are fed!! My work is done. Finally!! I didn't make the morning clan gathering but that's ok, I made the most important event of the day-the wedding.
I did something a bit out of character Sunday at faire-I reverenced the queen. When I see her coming I usually turn around and go the other way or turn my back if I can't get away. Like a friend said 'if you're going to dress noble, might as well act like one' when he saw me reverence.
Sucks that so many people have my pic on their camera and I'll never see them unless I do by chance. There's one or two that I would love to see.
Last night I went to an Allman Bros concert where there were a bunch of hippies especially old hippies. I was too young to participate in the hippie culture when it was at its peak. Being around all those hippies made me think about our culture and how we're on the edges of mainstream culture. We dress differently like the hippies, have our own music, our own language, inside jokes, etc but we generally aren't anti-establishment and we usually don't dress in garb outside of faire or other similar events. I just hope we don't become 'mainstream' like state/county fairs. I enjoy having a hobby/obession that other people find interesting or just plain weird. It amazes me sometimes the reaction I get from people when they find out about it. I enjoy my position at NCRF, it allows me to get creative, interact with patrons and cast, I can do a persona or not (I usually do because it makes faire much more fun), and more freedom with garb.
Faire isn't the only non-mainstream part of my life, it's just the most visible and best understood by most people. I'm just glad that Rennie's for the most part are open-minded.
It appears that the husband and I will be embarking on a journey into a different lifestyle. One that is outside the mainstream (big surprise there! lol). We have a close friendship with another couple, a close intimate friendship and it seems that we are ready for some sort of commitment, I think. At least close it to others. Be friends with other people but keep it platonic. I have close friends outside of this quad that I won't willingly give up for them. We all have our outside interests but we have common interests also. Right now, the other male half and I are the ones that are 'in charge' of this relationship and the other 2 come along and enjoy the ride. In fact, we call the other male half 'Mr Social Director' . I guess you can say he and I are the dominate two even though I pretty much have him eating out of my hand and hubby is easily swayed my way. She's fairly submissive so that's not a problem.
I'm just glad that most Rennies are more open-minded than the mainstream. We kinda have to be considering our hobby/obession.
